Most Yahsat beams cover the region well, but certain transponders or spot beams may have less power in your specific city or building orientation. Obstructions, dish size, and slight misalignment can make Yahsat appear weaker compared to Nilesat or Badr.
For Pakistani channels on satellites like Yahsat, use a high-quality, low-noise universal LNB with good LO stability. Because some transponders are weaker, a sensitive LNB combined with a correctly sized and aligned dish (often 90–120 cm) provides better stability.
Yes. Dust, sand, and suspended particles increase attenuation of Ku-band signals and can partially coat the dish surface, reducing reflectivity. During strong sandstorms you may experience temporary signal loss; cleaning the dish and LNB cover afterwards helps restore performance.
Extreme heat causes expansion of metal parts and can shift the dish focus by a small amount. LNBs also experience LO frequency drift at high temperatures. Together with increased noise in the coaxial cable, this can push marginal signals below the lock threshold. Using a desert-rated LNB and very precise alignment reduces this issue.
For Dubai high-rise apartments, a 100–120 cm solid dish with a rigid mount is ideal for Nilesat and common regional satellites. High wind and building reflections make small dishes unstable, so a larger dish with solid bracket and quality LNB gives more reliable signal.
Hotbird’s main beams are targeted toward Europe and parts of MENA. In the UAE, the signal is much weaker, and many transponders are below the practical reception threshold unless you use a very large dish (often 150–180 cm or more). For most homes, it is not practical to rely on Hotbird with a small balcony dish.
Nilesat’s main beam is centered over Egypt and North Africa, so the UAE sits near the weaker outer coverage zone. This makes signal levels lower, particularly for HD and low-FEC transponders. Dish size, LNB quality, cable loss, and thermal drift in hot weather can further reduce the margin.
Because UAE is on the edge of the Nilesat footprint, a minimum 100–120 cm dish is recommended for stable reception, especially for HD channels. In some locations or for weaker transponders, a slightly larger dish may provide better rain and heat margin.
For UAE conditions, choose a universal Ku-band LNB with a very low noise figure (0.1–0.3 dB), high LO stability, and UV-resistant housing. Desert-rated LNBs handle extreme rooftop temperatures better and reduce signal drift during the hottest hours of the day.
